We currently have thirteen Directors which helps distribute the workload for our tournaments and open days. The first committee meetings were held the beginning of February and the NCGA committee members and staff were very appreciative of our knowledge and subject matter expertise. They are active participants in organizing our tournaments, officiating at our tournaments, and are willing to come to your course and give you a rules seminar.
January 1st brought many changes to the women golfers of Northern California. NCGA became our handicap and course rater provider. An NCGA course rating team consists of six men and six women. NCGA uses a different system and our ladies are learning a new process and Sheri is confident they will be successful. NCGA, with the help of our knowledgeable course raters, is responsible for every course in Northern California. Another hurdle was billing and collecting the renewal dues. After the December Annual Meeting and during January, our staff is busy closing out the end-of-the-year activities, proof reading the green book and getting it ready to go to print, and we start working on our tournaments, etc.
Changing our membership renewal process from March to January put a huge workload on our staff. We had several Club Pros and Captains call for help, which we are happy to do…but it was an extremely busy time in our office. I congratulate Eva, Sue, and Vicki for their meticulous record keeping and pleasant personalities.
They admitted they learned a few things from us. Having NCGA at our Regional Meetings gave them the opportunity to meet and talk to our members and see how dedicated our members are to WGANC and your willingness to give up your morning to come and be trained to help your club run as efficiently as possible.
The Collaboration Team will spend an enormous amount of time discussing our Open Days and tournaments during our meetings. This was the program we used for our Open Days and tournaments. This program created our score cards, cart signs, pairings, and gave us your course handicap and the tournament results. This program was very similar to your all time favorite cooking recipes.
Imagine your recipes being destroyed and you needing to start all over. Golf Genius is our replacement program. Fortunately, Board Director Pat Zimmerman and her husband, Norm, are computer gurus and through many long hours of tedious work, they have been able to put together an instructional binder for us to use.
Pat holds training sessions either on a group or individual basis. Each Director has had ten to twelve hours of training and we continue to learn.
Golf Genius is a very robust program and as we use it, we discover more usable features but the learning process has been very, very time consuming. This year is a year to explore — to take a good look at our business practices and strengthen our weaknesses and highlight our strong points.
So far, the changes have been forced upon us and as such we strive to make the best for our members out of the circumstances.
As I write this, the handicap and course rating programs appear to be successful. In February we purchased Constant Contact, a software program that allows us to send mass emails and communicate directly with you.
This is a year to explore and see what is available for us. This is your organization — please feel free to email us with any of your ideas or suggestions. Your Directors have been exceedingly busy preparing for our golf season…I hope we see you at one of our Open Days or tournaments.
Read the second of three incredibly moving articles written by Dianna Stein about three of our clubs affected by the fires from last Fall. Last issue was a short personal experience from a member of Silverado and her husband who lost their home and what they did immediately after the fire storm. Somehow I had never really thought about how one did that as it related to golf. Soon my new women golf friends were explaining to me the meaning of indexes, course slope, GHIN numbers and posting. This was supposed to be fun! I accepted the challenge and anticipated that my handicap would reflect my hard work and soon I would be sporting as low a handicap as many of the women twenty years my senior.

Phil Johnson is a man who gets mistaken for a woman but only by that not paying attention. That revelation kicks off a battle for self-awareness where comedy and music are the weapons of choice. Using that experience, Phil pokes holes in the medical marijuana argument, discusses being a white guy at a hip-hop show and the innocent gestures that can get him in trouble , and reveals why Hawaii isn't the paradise we think it is.
From Shakespearean bees to redneck vampires to anthropomorphic cell phones with weight issues, Phil Johnson fills the stage with quirky characters that combine social satire with absurdist flights of fancy. Then the guitar comes out and kicks the show into an even higher gear with songs about the bright future and dark past of babies and what he would do if he woke up one morning as an actual woman. On stage, Phil's playful humor and likable, endearing manner allow him to shake things up without antagonizing the audience.

Shaman Johal is fast becoming one of the greatest lyft drivers in the LA area, he is also a stand-up comedian. Born in the northern shores of Ireland to a close-knit family of druids, he was deemed the chosen one. After saving all of his homeland from a great potato famine, he realized there was more work to be done and promptly moved to the city of angels otherwise known as Compton, California.
Once there, he began learning about the pimp game. Within two days he had his own home business and purple furry drop top Cadillac. Three days in, he caught the attention of the head of the Gambino crime family, who propositioned him to be the new head of the Gambino crime family, he declined the offer and instead, united all the Sicilian crime families into one big mafia and then became their leader. He then became Buddhist and planned to climb the Himalayan mountains barefoot to find enlightenment, but booked the wrong flight and ended up in Japan instead.

Even though life was good on the plains, eating lion meat and dancing with gazelles, Shaman knew his story had to be told, so he canoed back to America and began doing comedy.
